Week 7 States Division Players of the Week
A North
Forward - Riley Borenstein Senior Howell - Riley would not accecpt defeat in the opening round of the CJG4 against Marlboro. Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Riley stepped her game up and helped Howell score three unanswered. She had 2 goals and an assist in the second half, including the game winner with less then five minutes to play.
Defender - Kasey Resker Junior Manalapan - Kasey help propel Manalapan in CJG4 semis with the golden goal against Monroe. Resker has been a key part of the Manalapan defense all season and this is her second division award of the season.
Goalie - Leila Shaw Freshman Manalapan - Leila had big shoes to fill with junior Emma Guidotti out with a season long injury. She has stepped up nicely, posting eight shutouts including back to back shutouts in states. She had 11 saves against Monroe to help Manalapan advance to the semis.
A Central
Forward - Kiertsen Brown Senior Wall - Kiersten almost doubled her goal production in the first round of the states. She scored two goals in the opening round against Gov. Livingston in a 4-2 win for Wall. In round 2 she helped Wall beat the #1 seed in CJG2 Metuchen 7-1. In this statement win she had two goals and one assist.
Defender - Molly Walker Freshman Trinity Hall - Molly has been a key part of the tough Trinity Hall defense all season. As a freshman she has not backed down from any challange. She helped Trinity earn a first round shutout in Non Public A opening round.
Goalie - Katie Wall Junior Rumson - Katie has stepped up her game the last couple weeks. She posted back to back shutouts to start states, giving her 8 for the season. In the opening round she had three saves against South River and then posted another three saves against Spotswood to help Rumson reach CJG2 semis.
A South
Forward - Samantha Versnal Junior Central Regional - Samantha does not score a lot of goals with Hannah Lewis on the roster, but she is a big reason why Hannah has over 20 goals on the season. In the first round of the states, Sam had three assist. In the next round she had one assist in a 3-2 game that went into overtime.
Defender - Emma Burgess Senior Central Regional - Emma was key reason why Central Regional was able to defeat TRN for the second time this season. She helped anchor the back line and limited the offensive of the explosive TRN offense in root to a 3-2 victory to help Central Regional advance to SJG4 semis.
Goalie - Hayley Tighe Senior Brick Memorial - Hayley came up with some unbelievable saves against Jackson Memorial in the quarterfinals in CJG3 to help Brick Memorial advance into the semis for the second straight year. She had 8 saves in the game, none no bigger then the one she had in the final minute of play to keep Jackson Memorial scoreless.
B North
Forward - Lily Carhart Senior Manasquan - What a week Lily has had for Manasquan. She had the game winner in the opening round in CJG2 against Holmdel and then she had the game winning assist against Robinsville to send Manasquan into the semifinals.
Defender - Jane Rogers Junior Ocean Twp - Jane had a very good state tournament, especially in the first round. She was a big reason they held Delaware Valley, who had a 23 goal score and 18 goal score on the season, to a shutout in a first round upset.
Goalie - Gia Restivo Sophomore Manasquan - Gia posted eight saves in the opening round of states and posted her fourth shutout of the season against Holmdel. She followed that up with her fifth shutout of the season against Robinsville to help Manasquan advance to CJG2 semifinals.
B Central
Forward - Baileigh Johnson Freshman Pt Beach - Baileigh had her most important goals of her freshman season against Shore Regional in the second round of CJG1. She scored the first goal of the game and they had the game winner to help Pt Beach advance with a 3-2 victory.
Defender - Haley Poser Sophomore Ranney - Whatever Hayley has been asked to do she has for Ranney. She has help anchored the defense or score goals when needed. She was big factor why Ranney had an opening round shutout in Non Public B opening round.
Goalie - Morgan Highland Senior Pt Beach - Morgan was waiting for this game for a full year and did she deliver. She had 21 saves to help Pt Beach get their revenge against Shore Regional to advance in the CJG1 semis. Shore has eliminated Pt Beach the last couple of seasons.
B South
Forward - Mackenzie Brotherson Sophomore Lacey - Mackenzie has stepped her game up to another level to start the state tournament. Opening round she had one goal and two assists. In round two she scored a hat trick and added an assist in a 4-3 Lacey win to advance to the semifinals of SJG3.
Defender - Gabby Mellet Sophomore Pt Boro - Gabby has been a force all season on defense for the Panthers. A team that has had 12 shutouts, none bigger then the two to start states, especially against a dangerous Ocean Twp attack in round two to help Pt Boro advance into the semis.
Goalie - Ava Bjorndahl Freshman Pt Boro - Ava posted her 11th and 12th shutouts of the season in the first two rounds of states. She came up with six saves against Ocean Twp. to push Pt Boro into the semis of CJG2.
